Student’s Wheel And Deal Putting Their Maths Skills To The Test
As part of the school’s Maths Week, pupils from Ranelagh Primary School got to experience maths in the real-world when they joined AW&D Hammond in March. Using cars from our premises, AW&D Hammond showed the children how to apply their mathematical skills in a different environment. Sarah Palmer, Maths Co-ordinator at the school, said: “It went really well, the children loved it and have learnt a lot. They had to work out deals for the customers like taking percentages off the prices. It makes them realise why we need to learn these skills.”
Mrs Palmer explained how experiences such as this were very worthwhile and provided the children with an alternative way to learn. She added that not only had the visit brought maths to life, it also helped teachers see where there were gaps in pupils’ knowledge.
