About Hammond Group
The Hammond Group are motor dealers based in North Suffolk. Founded in 1962 by Roy and Daisy Hammond, the pair took a tremendous leap of faith by launching their own motor repair company when they started trading as A W & D Hammond in the small village of Wenhaston, near Halesworth. Through hard work, dedication and by delivering what customers wanted, their initial £1500 investment evolved into the company that is now the Hammond Group.
Fifty six years ago, Roy Hammond worked in Halesworth as a motor mechanic, but decided to turn his passion for motor vehicles and strong desire to provide a valued service for his local community into a business. Starting in a humble wooden shed as his workshop, which could only hold one and a half cars, Roy Hammond quickly built a reputation for himself and was way ahead of his time, offering courtesy cars, service washes and a 24 hour breakdown and recovery service, way before any of these ideas had ever been thought of.
As the business grew, Roy expanded by purchasing an adjoining field and then in 1974 bought the Ford business in Halesworth. Derek Hammond, Managing Director, often recalls serving petrol on the opening day at this new site. Business continued to grow rapidly in many areas and various premises and franchises were acquired.
Ambition to be the best and a strong desire to constantly provide excellent customer service has been the beating heart of Hammonds from the very first day and the growth and success is a testament to Roy’s vision.
The Hammond Motor Group now represents 5 different manufacturers from 8 premises and is a one-stop-shop for all needs, including a large Accident Repair Centre for both cars and commercial vehicles, an extensive recovery and breakdown department with 25 vehicles in the fleet, a mobile semi-trailer repair business, a large rental vehicle fleet, a tyre retail and wholesale business, a forecourt, an HGV repair department and a large trade parts business. Currently we have 202 staff on the payroll.
Throughout the course of the last 5 decades, leadership of Hammonds has passed through to the 2nd and 3rd generations who continue to build upon the previous success and provide a wide range of innovative and award winning services.
